Fiji rated internationally

A local resort has gained international recognition in a book by a well known travel writer.
Yasawa Island Resort and Spa has been named as one of the top 10 most romantic resorts in the world. The rating was published in a book titled, Confessions of a Luxury Hotel Addict, by travel writer, Matthew Brace.

Yasawa resort’s romantic spirit

In the book, Mr Brace said the hotels named on the list shared a magical, almost indefinable and romantic spirit. Mr Brace said the ratings were partly due to their natural surroundings but was mainly achieved by the inspired vision of the designers, owners, managers and staff of the resort. Ten years ago, Mr Brace set out on his mission of discovering how luxurious and romantic hotels could be.

Ahead of well known hotels

He lists Yasawa Island Resort as the seventh most romantic resort, ahead of the Prince Hotel in Melbourne, Amaniena in Morocco and Sunset Tower in Los Angeles. Other resorts on the list include The Bale in Bali, Londra Palace in Venice, Sila Evason Hideaway in Koh Samui, The Observatory in Sydney, Club at the Legian, Bali and The Chedi in Oman.

Resort glows with pride

Resort managing director, Garth Downey said they were delighted with such a glowing endorsement and it was a great honour for Yasawa Island Resort to be included among the world’s best hotels in a book of this calibre.
“The coverage Matthew Brace has provided for us, both in his book and in the Australian media, is also of great benefit to Fiji as a whole,” Downey said.

Fijian warmth is greatest asset

“Many of the comments Matthew makes in his book relate to the hospitality, warmth and sincerity of the Fijian people and this has always been our greatest asset.
“I’ve always believed that the culture and hospitality of our people are the key forces that drive the success of our tourism industry, and this has never been more important than it is today.”
